Course Content

Programme Structure

IPMA-UK Professional Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program is designed to be flexibility to meet the needs of various students in different study environments and Institutions.

Participating students are required to take the equivalent of five, 3-credit courses in the following categories:

  • TWO (2) Core courses (6 credits)
  • TWO (2) Option courses (typically 6 credits)
  • ONE “Capstone” course or work experience (typically 3 credits)

In some cases, students may be permitted to substitute one of the required option courses with an additional capstone.

Courses

Core courses are designed to provide students with the fundamental language, knowledge, leadership and communication skills which are integral to Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The content in these courses answer elaborates on the concepts of Entrepreneurship, the practical approaches to the practice of Entrepreneurship and making Entrepreneuship a reality.

Required core courses are offered solely by the IPMA-UK Professional Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Marketing Management for New Ventures

Option Courses

Option courses provides students with the discipline or industry/market-specific in-depth understanding in areas which are relevant to entrepreneurship and/or innovation and of course, in their own personal interest.

The content of the two required option courses should be relevant and applicable and must complement or enhance students’ learning. Option courses may be offered by the various Departments across their University or alternatively directly by the IPMA-UK through distance learning.

Options courses should deliver knowledge and skills that accomplish one or more of the following:

  • Deepen students’ understanding of areas pertinent to entrepreneurship that will improve their chances of success in creating new business ventures (e.g. leadership, professional selling, new product development, technology strategy).
  • Build awareness of opportunities for venture development in specific industries or markets.
  • Increase students’ ability to create economic or social value in an entrepreneurial way.
  • Allow students to expand the markets in which they will operate (e.g. business language courses, global entrepreneurship programs).
Students can choose Option courses from the approved course list which have been jointly approved with each University in the scheme

Capstone Courses

Capstone courses provide students with the hands-on, real-world entrepreneurial or innovation related experiences. This may include developing business plans for new business ventures, involvement in the product innovation and technology commercialization processes, or an approved internship with an early-stage company.

Capstone courses and experiential programs may be offered by Departments within their University or directly with the IPMA-UK through distance learning.

Capstone courses or experiences should provide closure and coherence to the IPMA-UK Professional Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program and includes one or more of the following:

  • Culminating experiences in which students are expected integrate and apply knowledge from previous Required and option courses.
  • Launching pads for new products or new business ventures.
  • Marketable experiences to prospective employers.

Skills utilized and assessed should include the ability to:

  • Work constructively in groups and on teams.
  • Understand theories and perspectives of the discipline.
  • Identify and assess opportunities.
  • Use library and other resources to perform research.
  • Evaluate critically what is read and heard.
  • Demonstrate high order thinking.
  • Make reasoned decisions.
  • Communicate persuasively.

Possible capstones may include:

  • Involvement in launching your own venture
  • Consulting for Emerging Enterprises
  • Internships Prograame
  • Field Entrepreneurship study program organized and led by relevant faculty/staff.
Students can choose Capstone courses from the approved Capstone course list which have been jointly approved with each University in the scheme
