ABSTRACT

In today’s business environment, ‘knowledge capital’, i.e. the skills, expertise, and capability of employees is rapidly becoming a key to competitive advantage. Leading organizations know that the collective knowledge and talents of their employees are central to their business success:  that employee’s are not just an asset, but a base source of growth. In fact, 66 percent of the “world’s most admired companies,” and 30 percent of other large companies include the building of human capital as one of the goals for their managers (Management Services, 2000).

In order to attract and retain people with the talent required to achieve critical business results, companies must be known to make a significant investment in their knowledge capital. For today’s managers, this means that the practice of coaching is becoming one of their primary means of contributing to this critical investment in individual and organizational capacity.
