Mick Dilcock

Mick left school aged sixteen in 1973 armed only with a handful of GCE ‘O’ levels and initially trained and qualified as a Civil Engineer and then spent the next twenty five years working in the construction and utilities industries. As he had by natural process, progressed his career to senior management level he had a developed and growing interest in ‘management’ at the ‘sharp end’ and pursued it further by studying at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In 1998 he moved away from construction and joined Professor Bob Haigh at the newly formed Research Centre at the Dearne Valley Business School. Mick’s particular areas of interest/research within the genre of business management lie in bridging the gap between theory and practice and sustainable development. This work with Professor Haigh would introduce Mick to the world of academic publishing and within two years they had developed three hardcopy international journals; Applied Management, Applied HRM and Applied Marketing. Subsequently he has established IMJ an online publishing house carrying twenty one journals all aligned to the applied management theme; www.managementjournals.com

Mick has numerous journal publications and international conference presentations along with three books co-edited to date. He has taught/facilitated/supervised at undergraduate, post graduate and corporate levels. He currently works as a freelance consultant working alongside and with several local, regional, national and international organizations. Mick has been working with IPMA for three years now providing facilitation services at professional events in both Kuala Lumpur and the UK. In addition he is now working very closely with IPMA CEO Mike Wooi in developing effective systems and procedures moving towards a visionary strategy of continuance of the association.

Mick was highly instrumental in conceptualizing, designing and developing IPMA’s newly emerged international journal and he was thrilled to be presented with an Honorary Fellowship of the association in recognition of his academic endeavors overtime. He was recently appointed: Chair IPMA Education & Membership Committee and looks forward with great enthusiasm to working ever closely with existing partners and respective affiliates and anticipates contributing significantly in continued growth and development of IPMA in the future. Mick is highly attuned to the now ‘global need’ for continued push in developing and establishing sustainable and meaningful partnerships in support of the Professional Manager at the ‘sharp end’ encouraging valuable growth both intellectual and innovative within the now given global imperative.
