Our Professional Association has FOUR levels of qualifying examinations in Computing and IT

Foundation Level

Intermediate Level

Professional Part 1

Professional Part 2

These qualifying examinations are designed to reflect the best professional practice in Computing and IT and are constantly updated to ensure that the latest technological and communications knowledge and practices are included in our syllabus to meet the Business and informational requirements of Industrial, Commercial, Service and Public organisations.

Each level comprises a study programme of a minimum duration of one year. Students may elect to study by distance learning or with one of a number of selected colleges. Each award is a stand-alone qualification in its own right.

An aspiring or established manager successfully completing the International Professional Managers Association qualifying examinations has a recognisable portfolio of skills and knowledge at the leading edge of best Computing practice. In addition, those successfully undertaking all four levels, completing a qualifying project and an Internship can gain the designation as a Certified International Professional Manager (CIPM) in Computing.

Succesful completion of the International Professional Managers Association qualifying examinations and membership status are designed to create a pathway to the best and the most rewarding professional careers in Computing and IT.

First Level – A Foundation Programme:

This level is intended for those on the first step of a Professional Computing career. It provides:

  • A basic framework for the understanding of the practical skills required by any aspiring manager working in a Computing or information processing environment;
  • The basic knowledge and skills required for effective Computing and information processing for the organisation;
  • A programme of practically based study undertaken at selected Colleges, or during employment which includes carefully supervised projects and assignments over a period of one year;

Entry Qualificationsto this programme are A- Level GCSE or equivalent

Second Level – An Intermediate Programme:

This level is designed to provide:

  • A deeper understanding of the practical aspects of computing and IT its application to improve and enhance the information processing and decision making capabilities of their organisation; (building on the knowledge and skills gained from the foundation level programme)
  • A study programme designed to enable participants to develop and apply effective computing and IT techniques for the solution of practical organisational control and decision making problems;
  • Carefully supervised projects and assignments; and
  • A programme of practically based study undertaken at selected Colleges, or during employment, over a minimum period of one year;

Entry Qualificationsto this programme are the International Professional Managers Association Foundation leve qualifying examinations, or a recognised Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent.

Third Level – Professional Part I

This programme is at Post Graduate Certificate level and is designed to provide:

  • The tools and techniques to be able to tackle complex and challenging business problems with effective Computing and IT solutions including effective design of systems and their implementation;
  • A programme of practically based study undertaken at selected Colleges or during employment over a minimum period of one year;
  • Carefully supervised assignments, case studies and projects;

Entry Qualifications to this programme are the International Professional Managers Association Intermediate qualifying examinations, or a recognised Degree or equivalent.

Fourth Level – Professional Part 2

This programme is at Post Graduate level and is designed to include:

An extension of the studies undertaken for Professional level Part 1, but in greater depth

  • A consideration of up to date computing and IT mechanisms and strategies to achieve desired business goals and objectives
  • A practical understanding of corporate policy and strategy and to adapt computing and IT solutions to achieve the strategic objectives of their organisation.
  • A carefully supervised major project in an area of Computing activity relevant to the participant's career in computing and IT ; and

Entry Qualificationsto this programme are the International Professional Managers AssociationProfessional Part 2 qualifying examinations or a recognised Master’s Degree or equivalent.

Exemptions may be considered from individuals with significant work experience at senior executive level.

No exemptions will be granted from the Case Studies examination of the Professional Part 2 qualifying examinations.
